COMMUNITY PLANNING

Community planning is all about asking questions - how do we go about planning for the future, what do we want our future to look like, who should be involved and how do we get them engage? How do we design an overall vision and strategy geared to our circumstances? The right approach will be different for every community, but there are models and principles we can help you to apply. We can help design your planning project, facilitate a visioning process, led your community through its discussions on economic growth or assist with the implementation of specific community projects.

Comprehensive Economic Development Strategies (CEDS)

A comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) is a community's economic roadmap to diversify and strengthen its economy. The CEDS should analyze a community's economy and serve as a guide for establishing goals and objectives, developing and implementing a plan of action and identifying investment priorities and funding sources.

Master Plans/Comprehensive Plans

A comprehensive plan or a master plan is used as a planning tool for the future growth of a local community. Comprehensive or master plans are prepared to address compatibility issues between various uses of land, management and preservation of natural resources, identification and preservation of historically significant lands and structures and adequate planning for infrastructure needs.

Tourism Development Plans

A tourism development plan is a community's roadmap for developing and growing its tourism economy. A tourism development plan outlines the steps to grow a sustainable and diverse visitor industry, resolve land use issues, improve and enhance community tourism infrastructure and enhance civic pride.

Community Visioning/Strategic Planning

A community visioning process is about imagining the future of your community and is often part of an overall strategic planning process. Strategic planning is all about matching the strengths of your community to available opportunities. And, to plan effectively, you need to collect and analyze community information, develop a clear understanding of your strengths and weaknesses as well as develop a clear mission, goals and objectives.
